Mesothelioma Needs More Fundraisers


Mesothelioma clinic - Several friends have been gathering on Sunday evening to prepare delicious meals of the "Cook for the Cure, a nonprofit group organized to raise money for mesothelioma patients Shanna Kurtz. Although the members of Cook for the Cure has been sitting for only a month, the group has more than 1100 $. The money collected will be donated to cope with mounting medical costs Kurtz.

With the diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma was 10 years ago at the age of 20, Kurtz was told by their doctors, that 80 percent of mesothelioma patients die soon after diagnosis. Kurtz preferred to rely on this information in a positive light and focused on the part of the 20 percent who survived longer.

Core members of Cook for the Cure include gay Wickham, Cheri Travis and Kelly Young, Texas, three women who come together to foods such as chicken tetrazzini, tortilla soup, Thai curry and shrimp gazpacho. In return for a casserole or entrée, the group asked for a donation to help with medical bills Kurtz.

The women have also with others in Kurtz, the home town of Cuero, Texas. The women helped sponsor a 33-mile bike ride and barbecue on 16 May 2009. A $ 30 registration fee for cyclists has been collected to help Kurtz mesothelioma treatments.

Kurtz is a decorator and is actively involved in community charity organizations. They recently managed Cinderella Project, a PROM rather for disadvantaged children. The event, the participants with a PROM dress or tuxedo, which is for girls and dinner for two people.

"Her enthusiasm for life is contagious," said Wickham of Kurtz. The organization intends to help make the burden of mounting medical costs for longer hospital stays due to Kurtz's mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a rare, aggressive cancer caused almost exclusively by asbestos exposure. Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 people with the disease diagnosed annually in the United States.
